It's not just incomings that will be providing Eddie Howe with a headache this summer as Newcastle United still have a glut of players that need to be moved on.

There are still plenty of Mike Ashley-era players on Newcastle's books. Eddie Howe has managed to transform a lot of them into the calibre of player we need at the club, but there are still plenty who are way off the pace and need to be moved on.

Unfortunately, Mike Ashley in his infinite wisdom, handed out a load of long-term contracts with decent pay for these players who are Championship quality and are now on Premier League wages, which makes them almost impossible to move on.

One such player is Isaac Hayden whose luck simply ran out when Eddie Howe joined the club. Starting life under Howe on the injury table, Hayden was facing an uphill struggle to prove his worth to Howe and ultimately fell short.

Isaac Hayden seems open to a return to Loftus Road

Hayden became popular at QPR this season

Several loan moves came and went with Hayden unable to convince anyone to take him full time. He was loaned out to Belgian side Standard Liege in the summer but that deal was cut short in January before Hayden joined Championship strugglers Queens Park Rangers in a bid to help them avoid relegation.

QPR pulled it off and managed to achieve safety with a game to spare with Hayden a big part of that. Now that QPR will again be in the championship next season, could Newcastle find a way to facilitate a permanent switch? It sounds like Hayden would be up for it as he posted a 'never say never' type message in a goodbye to Loftus Road on social media.

"Where to start, from joining on Feb 1st in the relegation zone, to ending the season today with a 3rd victory in a row and securing safety last weekend officially with a game to spare. It has been a pleasure to play for this club. I want to firstly thank the owners, Christian and the manager for giving me the opportunity, the set of lads I have shared a dressing room with have been amazing and top class, the back room staff who have sacrificed a lot and given so much to help us and the fans for their unwavering support of the team and myself personally since I’ve joined. It is a time I will always remember and hold onto very fondly. Who knows what the future may bring but it’s been an honour and I’m sure this club is going one way and that’s up. Forever a ranger 💙🤍"

Hayden will be one of a few returning loanees the club will want to shift

Hayden will now return to Newcastle but he will be one of several players whom the club will be working hard to find a new home for along with Jamal Lewis and Ryan Fraser.

It's a shame that things didn't completely work out for Isaac Hayden at Newcastle because he always seemed to have the potential to be a top-quality player, but a string of injuries seemed to halt his progress.

Hopefully, the former Arsenal man will find a new home at another club this summer and thrive in his new role.
