If we've learned anything this summer it's that things often don't move very quickly at Newcastle United these days.

Everything is a process now which is both fantastic and extremely irritating. The due diligence and long-gestating pauses involved in any type of deal be it letting a senior member of the board leave for another club or simply signing a player for the first-team, is frustrating from a fans' point of view, but should prevent any regrets down the line.

Newcastle will never be bullied into paying over the odds for a player, while they also refuse to simply pay what is being asked, so it should be no surprise to discover that the Magpies went in with a lowball offer to Crystal Palace which was rejected.

Now, as The Northern Echo reports, Newcastle are readying their second bid which is likely to be much closer to Crystal Palace's valuation of the England defender, although, we're sure it'll still be short.

Crystal Palace are holding out for £65m

It's believed Palace want £65 million for Guehi, which is around what most people would have expected.

It would, therefore see Guehi become Newcastle's most expensive signing ahead of Alexander Isak who arrived for £63 million.

We doubt that breaking the record on a defender is an issue for the Newcastle hierarchy, but we're sure that they'd rather avoid doing so if they feel they can get a better deal.

We could see movement on Guehi this week

Plenty of reports have suggested that agreeing personal terms with the player won't be an issue, so it all comes down to agreeing a price and payment structure with Crystal Palace before moving on.

There is still a lot of confidence that an agreement will be reached with Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie telling Sky Sports News this morning that he feels the deal will get done sooner rather than later.

Will Osula's move to Newcastle could be confirmed later today or tomorrow which means this could be a huge week for Newcastle.
