Work is underway at Newcastle United to identify potential transfer targets after a lacklustre summer transfer window.

The Magpies had two priority positions to fill heading into the break and they were right-sided central defender and right winger and due to a number of reasons, the club failed to sign either.

This has put a lot of pressure on new sporting director Paul Mitchell to deliver in the next couple of windows.

We should probably temper our expectations for January as it's a notoriously tricky window to deal in, but we have to see plenty of movement next summer.

Luca Koleosho missed most of last season with a knee injury

Several Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Luca Koleosho of Burnley

One target that HITC reports that Newcastle have on their radar is 20-year-old American-born Italy youth international Luca Koleosho who currently plays for Championship side Burnley.

Newcastle are one of several Premier League sides keeping an eye on the young winger with Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and Wolves also keen.

Transfermarkt list Koleosho as a left-winger but he has played many games out on the right which is likely why Newcastle are watching him with interest.

Koleosho has two goals already this season

So far this season he has managed two goals in five games after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of action from December last year.

His record in the Premier League up to that point wasn't exactly inspiring, but he was a youngster playing for a struggling side, so it's hard to really judge him on that, same as Will Osula.

It looks like there could be a big scrap for Koleosho, whether it be in January or everyone waits until the summer.
