Newcastle United's patience is wearing thin with regards to Crystal Palace and Marc Guehi and with the Eagles' mouthpiece Steve Parish spouting off about the deal not being right, the Magpies hierarchy are starting to look elsewhere.

Whether it be Marc Guehi or someone else, Newcastle are determined to bring in another centre-back this summer and as such have started looking into contingency plans for if the protracted move for Guehi fails.

Malick Thiaw who we all thought was Newcastle-bound before all this Guehi business started has ruled out a move away from AC Milan, so Newcastle have to find someone else.

A story regarding the Magpies looking to hijack Bologna's £25 million bid for Toulouse defender Logan Costa is picking up a lot of traction today.

Logan Costa was set to replace Riccardo Calafiori at Bologna

It could literally be a case of journalists being bored of writing about Marc Guehi when there are no actual developments that they've turned their attentions elsewhere for a break - it's pretty much what we're doing because we're not convinced by this Costa story.

But for the sake of reporting on what's going on, despite what Newcastle World are claiming, Logan Costa is not a new name with the Magpies having been linked earlier in the summer with the NUFC social media detectives believing talks were underway.

The 23-year-old Cape Verde international had looked to be on his way to Italian club Bologna for £25 million, likely to replace Riccardo Calafiori who moved to Arsenal.

Newcastle would have to do some damage control if they flip-flopped to Costa

TuttoBolognaWeb are now saying that the deal has reached a 'permanent stalemate' so it looks as though that deal has collapsed leaving it wide open for Newcastle to swoop in.

Things are still active with Guehi with the two clubs bickering over £5 million - one side is bound to cave eventually.

More importantly, though, it would be very, VERY difficult for Newcastle to spin it if we walk away from a £60 million deal for an England international with plenty of Premier League experience to go for a Cape Verde international from France for almost a third of the cost.

That being said, if they use to money they save on the defender to put towards a world-class right winger, then I'm sure all will be forgiven.
