Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign 24-year-old striker who recently played in the Copa America semi-finals.

Canada were knocked out of the Copa America at the semi-final stage by Argentina which means that Lille striker Jonathan David can now contemplate his next move with just 12 months remaining on his contract.

David recently said on his Strikers Corner podcast that he doesn't know where he'll be playing football next season but wasn't thinking about it until after the Copa America.

Now journalist Jacque Talbot has reportedly told Football Transfers that Newcastle have entered talks over a possible move this summer, as relayed by Newcastle World.

We've got everything crossed that Newcastle can pull this off

Newcastle and Lille have done plenty of business in the past

Newcastle will be hoping that their good relationship with Lille will help them as they look to sign David who has been rumoured to be available for just £25million.

Naturally, there will be other clubs interested in the Canadian forward, clubs who could dangle the carrot of European football in front of him that Newcastle currently can't, but Newcastle still have one of the more exciting projects in the game right now and that's a huge selling point.

As is the fact that JD could team up with Alexander Isak. That has to be a strong unique selling point for the Magpies.

Fetch!

Football Transfers can be a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to the validity of their stories, so we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that this is the former rather than the latter.

I believe we've been quite clear on our thoughts of Newcastle signing Jonathan David, but just for clarity's sake - we should do absolutely everything we can do get this deal done right now before any other club wakes up.

We're 50/50 on whether this will actually happen but 100% convinced it will be a good move if we do pull it off.
