It seems that Newcastle United and AC Milan's relationship has managed to survive the Sandro Tonali drama.

Newcastle United acquired Sandro Tonali from AC Milan last year for £55million and just 12 games into his Newcastle career was slapped with a 10-month ban for breaching betting rules.

This led to the question of whether Milan knew what was coming down the line given how so many people had commented at how good of a deal Newcastle had got on one of Italy's most exciting young players.

However, it seems that Newcastle certainly don't hold a grudge as Fabrizio Romano has now relayed that talks between the two clubs have taken place over potential transfers.

Newcastle are keen on young defender Malick Thiaw

Newcastle had been reported to be keen on England centre-back Fikayo Tomori but Romano claims he wasn't on the agenda, instead, the clubs discussed potential deals for Kieran Trippier and Malick Thiaw.

"Newcastle and AC Milan have been in contact today to discuss possible opportunities.

"No talks about Tomori, Newcastle are showing interest in Malick Thiaw but he’s important part of Milan project

"Kieran Trippier was also discussed but nothing concrete."

Kieran Trippier could be heading to Milan

Malick Thiaw is a 22-year-old German centre-back who made 21 appearances in Serie A for Milan last season and would be a huge coup for Newcastle given his potential.

Meanwhile, if the internet detectives putting two and two together regarding Kieran Trippier's homelife are right, we would not be surprised to see Trippier move abroad this summer as a form of escape.

Let's hope that we can bag Thiaw and while we're on with that, soften up Tomori and convince him to join him too.
