Newcastle United's convincing 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday was marred slightly as the Magpies picked up another injury.

Eddie Howe's men sailed to a home victory on Saturday but it wasn't always such a smooth ride. The convincing scoreline paints a picture of an easy win for the Magpies but there was a spell in the second half when Wolves threatened to spoil the party.

It's probably no coincidence that Wolves' spell of domination started around the 55th minute, just after Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier was withdrawn from action.

The Newcastle skipper went to ground with nobody around him and after a quick check by the physio, Tripps signalled to the bench that he'd need to come off.

Last night Kieran Trippier picked up the FWA North East Footballer Of The Year award and upon receiving his award gave a small update on his injury.

“I just felt something in my calf and I don’t want to take any risks or anything.

“I had a good chat with the manager but I won’t know anything until [Monday]. My calf is feeling good but you know scan results can say anything, but most importantly I’m feeling positive.”

We shouldn't have to wait too long for an update on Trippier's injury

It sounds like it's nothing too serious but we'll not know much more until later today at the earliest.

Trippier has seemingly overcome that poor spell that plagued his form at the back end of 2023 and it looking much more like his former self.

We are now entering the business end of the season where Newcastle will have to be back to their ruthless selves and pick up as many points as possible. There's still a shot of getting into Europe this season, but we can't afford to be dropping points to teams we should be beating like we have been doing, and having Kieran Trippier fit will be a big part of making that happen.
