Newcastle United are to hold a celebration on the Town Moor on Saturday 29th March after securing their first piece of silverware in 56 years.

The event on the Town Moor is going to be a four-hour celebration which will include special guests, live music and of course, the team parading the trophy.

However, fans weren't too keen on the idea as it has been put on instead of an open-top bus parade through the city, which is what many fans were expecting to happen.

Indeed, The Mag polled their readers on whether they'd prefer the Town Moor event or an open-top bus and the results were overwhelmingly in favour of the latter with only 1% in favour of the Town Moor event.

Newcastle City Council had no objections to an open-top bus parade

Many Newcastle fans questioned whether Newcastle City Council had blocked a bus parade and pushed the club towards the Town Moor idea, but now a statement from Cllr Karen Kilgour via Newcastle City Council's X account has rubbished those claims.

“Like all supporters, at the council we’re keen to celebrate this historic occasion and we’ve been working closely with the club, the emergency services, the Freemen and other partners to support their plans in any way we can.

“Our teams have guided and advised in any way they’ve been able, we haven’t blocked the holding of a parade, and we’ve been doing our utmost to facilitate the plans the club have presented. The anticipated crowds for Saturday’s celebration, to mark the end of a 70-year wait for domestic silverware, are expected to make it among the biggest events ever held in the city. The safety of those attending and the local communities and businesses affected by this must be the priority of all partners involved.

Open-top bus parade will now go ahead this weekend

In the wake of the Council's statement, the club have now confirmed that there will be a bus parade after all.

The parade will start at St James' Park and finish at the Town Moor. The club have also confirmed that everyone who registered an interest in the Town Moor event will receive a ticket.

Timings for the parade will be shared in due course, but this is great news for fans who were upset that there would be no bus parade. Obviously, as confirmed by the club, you will not need a ticket to attend the bus parade, only the Town Moor event.
