The announcement that the Carabao Cup celebrations will take place on the Town Moor rather than there being an open-top bus parade has gone down like a lead balloon with fans of Newcastle United.

After ending 56 years of misery and finally delivering a trophy for the fans, the club seems to be going out of its way to take the shine off the victory by bungling the celebrations at every turn.

First off, it was announced that Darren Eales and Bob Moncur will lift the trophy at St James' Park on Sunday at the Newcastle United Women game against Sunderland.

A move that has been criticised by many for being a cheap marketing stunt to sell more tickets for that game in a bid to break a Women's Championship attendance record. The fact that none of the Men's team will be there to parade the trophy that they won has certainly rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.

The club want everyone to celebrate but won't give everyone the chance to be part of the party

We get the anger about that one, but for us, it doesn't diminish the feeling when it's finally paraded by the men's team on the 29th and likely before the Brentford game a few days later.

However, the plans to forego an open-top bus parade in favour of a celebration on the Town Moor, for which fans aren't even guaranteed access thanks to it being a ticketed event, we're not sure there's a positive way to spin this one.

As we've said before, an open-top bus parade through the city on a Saturday will be a logistical nightmare, for sure, but we're sure it will be worth it. Fans have waited years to line the streets to witness such scenes and now they're being deprived of it.

Newcastle fans on X aren't taking the news well

The fact that the Town Moor celebration will be an alcohol-free event has also, as you'd expect, not gone down well.

Newcastle fan, Oliver Stirling on X summed things up perfectly with a sarcastic post showing the Manchester City treble-winning bus parade and adding the caption"

"This looks sh*t. I'd much rather stand around on a muddy town moor sober as a judge listening to some DJ on a stage in the distance."

It's clearly a big swing by the club to take this approach, but it's not going down well with the masses. We can see what they're trying to do, but you can't sanitise a football celebration, it just doesn't work like that.
