Martin Dubravka at the double - Newcastle United goalkeeper nominated twice for Save of the Month

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has been nominated twice for January's Save of the Month after being convinced to remain on Tyneside.

Heading into January it looked like Martin Dubravka was heading out of Newcastle with Al-Shabab closing in on a deal for the Slovakia international, but with Nick Pope out of action and neither of Newcastle's remaining eight thousand goalkeepers tickling Eddie Howe's fancy, the Toon gaffer convinced Dubravka to stay at least until the end of the season.

Indeed, Dubravka's form kept Nick Pope out of the game against Southampton with the first-choice stopper back from injury.

Now, Dubravka has been twice nominated in this month's Save of the Month competition.

Martin Dubravka's reflex save from Taylor Harwood-Bellis is the pick of the bunch

Dubravka's point-blank save from Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen was first up with Dubravka making himself as big as possible and deflecting the ball off his foot onto the crossbar and away.

The second nomination was from the 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend which saw the 36-year-old come for a corner and only get the slightest of touches but as he made his way back to his line Taylor Harwood-Bellis hit an overhead kick goal-bound and Dubravka had to make a quick reflex save.

For our money, we'd pick the Southampton save as the reflexes involved were absolutely outstanding.

Newcastle had no nominations in Goal of the Month this time around

Newcastle had no nominees in the Goal of the Month competition this time, preventing a potential clean sweep after Alexander Isak and Eddie Howe's nominations for Player and Manager of the Month respectively, but given that Alexander Isak won Goal of the Month along with Player of the Month in December, we can't complain too much.
