We said earlier today that Crystal Palace could flip us a middle finger tonight by playing Marc Guehi in the Carabao Cup tie against Norwich.

If Newcastle United really are about to sign Marc Guehi then, provided they beat Nottingham Forest tomorrow night, the England centre-back will not be able to represent the club in the Carabao Cup.

Oliver Glasner has named Guehi as captain in the Palace starting lineup for tonight's EFL Cup fixture against Norwich.

If the Guehi deal was really as close as Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail claimed last night, then surely, surely, Guehi doesn't play tonight.

Somebody is taking the mick now!

This is now the third game of the season that Marc Guehi has started for Crystal Palace mere hours after a report has come out suggesting that the deal between Newcastle and Palace for the 24-year-old was close to completion.

Journalists maintain that they believe the deal will get done, but frankly, we're losing all faith.

There's no way that if the deal was 24-28 hours away from being done that Crystal Palace would play Guehi tonight, not even as a giant middle finger to Newcastle.

We are genuinely starting to worry about what is going on at NUFC

We can make some allowances for this disruptive summer making the transfer window extremely difficult to navigate, but it still really doesn't bode well for the future.

It's probably tough for Paul Mitchell to come into the club in the middle of a transfer window and be expected to deliver before he's even got his bearings, we get that, but with his reputation and experience, we'd have thought he could hit the ground running and then get his bearings once the window had closed.

We don't think the Guehi deal is dead, but we are extremely frustrated at how long this has taken to get done and how we have been absolutely played for fools by Crystal Palace. It's actually embarrassing.
