Last week it was reported that Newcastle United were set to offer a contract to Manchester United youngster Omari Forson.

The 19-year-old told Manchester United he wanted to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month despite pleas from Kobbie Mainoo to stay.

HITC reported that Newcastle were among several clubs interested in the midfielder who made several first-team appearances last season under Erik ten Hag.

Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leicester City in the Premier League as well as RB Leipzig were all said to be keen on Forson along with Newcastle, but the England U20 international has surprised everyone with his new club.

Omari Forson has signed for AC Monza

HITC seemed confident that Forson would end up at one of the aforementioned clubs, but they were wrong.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on X that Omari Forson has joined mid-table Serie A side, AC Monza on a four-year deal.

Forson wasn't a player that we were really expecting Newcastle to make a move for, so despite this looking like another one that got away, I think we can rest easy knowing this was never likely to happen anyway.

The transfer window opens on Friday

Newcastle still have plenty of other targets that are much more realistic to chase while work carries on in the background over the signing of James Trafford.

There are a few exits that need to be taken care of too with Ryan Fraser looking like he'll be the next out the door - Eddie Howe's probably already packed his stuff for him.

The transfer window opens on Friday along with the start of Euro 2024, so we expect things will start to heat up from then.
