Ligue 1 side Lyon are willing to meet the asking price for Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh who looks set to leave the club following a successful spell out on loan, reports suggest.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe, including Liverpool, Everton and Borussia Dortmund.

The Magpies are looking to offload valuable assets ahead of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) deadline at the end of the month.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is hoping that the sale of Minteh could bring in as much as £40million, giving them a huge boost to their FFP troubles.

Newcastle and Everton are looking for a deal that suits both parties.

Aside from Lyon, Premier League side Everton are the only other club that has made their interest in Minteh "tangible" according to Keith Downie of Sky Sports.

The Magpies are working on a deal to sign Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but that is still far from being a done deal.

In the last few days, we have seen several Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Aston Villa and Everton sell young players to each other, seemingly creating a PSR loophole to bring fees down.

Minteh is no exception to this alleged loophole, the Gambian international signed for £7m last summer, so there is the potential for at least £30m profit.

Why sell Minteh?

It's a question most Newcastle fans will be asking, why should Yankuba Minteh be the player to go? He hasn't made a single appearance for the Magpies since joining from Danish club Odense in 2023.

He was sent out on loan to Eredivisie side Feyenoord where he scored 10 goals in 27 league games.

He also helped Arne Slot's side win the KVNB cup, despite being sent off in the final.

Minteh also scored in the Champions League against Celtic in December.
