New Borussia Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin has put one of Newcastle United's most promising prospects on his summer transfer shortlist.
According to Sky Sports Deutschland reporter Patrick Berger (not that one) Dortmund have set their sights on 19-year-old Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.
Minteh was Newcastle's first signing of last summer but as yet to make an appearance for the Magpies in any capacity after he immediately joined Dutch side Feyenoord on a season-long loan.
Under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, Minteh managed to iron out many flaws in his game. While still not the finished article, the improvement last season was remarkable and as a result he's now caught the attention of some big clubs.
Due to Arne Slot going to Liverpool, Minteh was linked with a £40million switch to Anfield, which would have meant a huge profit for Newcastle but would likely not have gone down well with fans who are eager to see Minteh in the black and white.
Now Minteh is on a three-man shortlist for Nuri Sahin along with former Toon target Ferdi Kadioglu and Jerdi Schouten.
Berger does state that the interest in Minteh is based on whether or not BVB can strike up another deal for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho who returned to Dortmund on loan last season and found his form again.
While making a big profit on Minteh would make sense in these Profit and Sustainability times, his potential is far too evident and letting him go before he's even had a chance to show us what he can do would feel like such a missed opportunity.
Especially if he goes on to be a world-class player. We'd be ruing the decision to sell him for years if he actually lives up to his potential.
Minteh is expected to get plenty of opportunities in pre-season so that Eddie Howe can assess him fully, and hopefully, he does enough to convince Howe that he should be part of the first-team set-up next season.
