On Wednesday it was reported that Newcastle United would forego an open-top bus parade with the Carabao Cup trophy, instead holding a big event on the Town Moor.

An open-top bus parade is a traditional way to showcase a trophy, but obviously, it's not without its logistical problems, which is why it was so easy to believe that the club would scrap those plans in favour of a huge gathering on the Town Moor.

While we're still in the 'save the date' phase of the celebrations set to take place in the city on the 29th March, rumours are changing like the wind.

One thing that is set to go ahead is Darren Eales and Bob Moncur lifting the trophy at St James' Park on Sunday as the NUFC Women take on Sunderland Women. A move that has been deemed by many as a cheap trick to sell more tickets for the lasses game in order to break the Women's Championship attendance record currently held by Sunderland.

Luke Edwards has claimed there will be a parade and an event

Whatever you feel about the trophy lift at the lasses game, the event on 29th is still the main one with the players back from international duty. We're sure the trophy will make another appearance when Brentford visit St James' Park on 2nd April too.

The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has today provided another update on the big celebration a week on Saturday saying that there will be an open-top bus parade and a gathering on the Town Moor.

"As well as Town Moor event there will be a parade through some of the city centre so as many people as possible get to take part. Town Moor will be centrepiece with a festival vibe #nufc"

We should get confirmation of the plans soon

We did suspect yesterday that the club could be looking to do both, it does seem like the right thing to do as not everybody could do the Town Moor while not everyone could make it to line the streets.

This way we get the best of both worlds.

It shouldn't be too long before we receive an official word from the club as to what the actual plans are. With just over a week until the event we expect we'll get confirmation in the next couple of days.
