Newcastle United's vice-captain Kieran Trippier's future at the club has been up in the air since rumours of a move to Bayern Munich surfaced in January.

All is not quiet on the home front for Trippier and his name has been taken off his executive box at St James' Park sparking rumours of an imminent departure.

The 33-year-old took a break and headed to the Middle East before returning to Newcastle for training this summer and teased a meeting with a talent scout for the Saudi Pro League while out there, fuelling the rumours even more.

Now it seems as though Trippier has decided on his future and it seems to lie away from St James' Park.

David Ornstein says Trippier wants out of Newcastle this summer

Just as we clicked to publish our piece on what will happen to the 13 players with expiring contracts, David Ornstein tweeted that Trippier, who was one of the subjects of our speculation in that article, is hoping to leave Newcastle before the window closes.

"EXCL: Kieran Trippier wants to leave Newcastle United before summer market closes + Everton among suitors. 33yo full-back contracted until 2026 but seeking regular 1st team action elsewhere. #EFC in contact with #NUFC to explore loan move @TheAthleticFC"

Ornstein's tweet says that Trippier is contracted to 2026, but as we understand it, his contract expires next summer, although Ornstein doubles down in his article saying there's two years remaining. BBC and Transfermarkt suggest otherwise. Regardless, it doesn't seem like Trippier wants to stick around to run it down anyway.

Trippier could move to Everton on loan

Trippier understands that he won't be the first-choice right-back at Newcastle anymore and as such wants to move on to find regular football.

Ornstein claims Everton are interested and could move to loan Trippier to reunite the player with Sean Dyche whom he worked with at Burnley.

We suspected a move to Saudi Arabia would be his more likely destination, but we'll have to wait and see. It does seem, though, that Trippier's days at St James' Park are numbered.

It's a huge shame to see him leave after all he's done or us, but you can't move forward by standing still.
