Paul Mitchell and his super spies are scouring the globe for fresh young talent to bring to Newcastle United and nurture into future stars.

Newcastle recently acquired Vakhtang Salia who has a sterling reputation and has been dubbed the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in his native Georgia, which is pretty high praise.

However, the search continues and now it seems that Mitchell's scouts have found someone a bit closer to home who has caught their attention.

Scottish Premier League side Motherwell have an 18-year-old central midfielder who is grabbing the attention of some big clubs.

Lennon Miller is on Newcastle's radar after a strong start to the season with Motherwell

Newcastle are looking at a move for Motherwell's Lennon Miller

Lennon Miller has made his way onto Newcastle's radar after his four assists and two goals in 12 SPL games so far this season.

Now journalist Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the Magpies are weighing up a potential £5 million move, hoping to beat out competition from the big two Scottish sides.

“He is a tremendous prospect. Celtic and Rangers were hoping he was still under the radar a little bit, as they thought it would be a battle between them two. But the English teams have really started to flock over the past six to eight weeks. I am told that more than half of the Premier League are looking at Lennon Miller, while Leeds United are also watching him.

“Newcastle like him. They really have a good history now of picking up these 18 and 19-year-olds. Newcastle have watched him and like him. He can play anywhere in midfield. Newcastle are firmly in the mix, and it will be up to the player. He’s a good tactician and a really good player.”

Lennon Miller could cost up to £5 million

Bailey uses Lennon Miller as an example of why big clubs are looking to nab young Scottish talent.

“He is potentially one of the best young players in Scotland, and we are talking about a deal worth probably a maximum of £5million.

“That does not even get you a good Championship player nowadays. That’s why Scottish football is getting a lot of interest now, there’s value up there.

“You have got to take a chance on some of these players. It feels like a no-brainer.

“For Newcastle, they would see him as one for the future, but not necessarily the distant future.”

It's another name to keep an eye out for as the all-important January transfer window gets ever closer.
