Newcastle United moved one step closer to ending the 70-year trophy drought on Tyneside after finishing off Arsenal at St James' Park by doubling their 2-0 aggregate scoreline.

The Magpies will flock to Wembley on the 16th of March where they will face either Tottenham or Liverpool who play their second-leg tie tonight with Spurs holding a slender one-goal lead going into the tie at Anfield.

Newcastle's records against the two clubs make it an easy choice as to which one we'd prefer to face at Wembley, but we have to beat whoever is in front of us, so we'll take what's coming.

Newcastle have had close calls with ending the trophy drought before, none more recent than two years ago when Manchester United got the better of the Toon at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.

Rob Lee had to miss out attending last night's match after having knee surgery

Former Newcastle midfielder Rob Lee had two Wembley trips in the FA Cup with Newcastle and was on the losing side both times. Last night the former Toon captain missed the game after undergoing knee surgery.

Current Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes dedicated the win to Rob Lee on X after the two recently sat down for an interview as part of the Adopted Geordies podcast.

"Job done for you legend!! Get well 3️⃣9️⃣🖤🤍"

Rob Lee is hoping Bruno Guimaraes can do what he couldn't and captain NUFC to a trophy

If you've not yet had the chance to watch Bruno and Joelinton's interview with Rob Lee, we highly recommend you do.

We love that Bruno took the time to wish Rob Lee well after the game.

We're sure Rob Lee will be at Wembley cheering the lads on next month putting that new knee to the test.
