Everton managed to save a point in the clash with Newcastle United on Saturday evening following an Anthony Gordon penalty which was saved by Jordan Pickford.

Newcastle had the lion's share of possession throughout the game but Everton kept plenty of men behind the ball and made it extremely difficult for Newcastle to break through the lines.

Fortunately, James Tarkowski had been watching the WWE before the game and decided to put some moves on Sandro Tonali in the box which resulted in a penalty being awarded to Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon, who had scored from the spot against Manchester City the week before, stepped up to take the spot kick. Likely with the thought of sticking it to his former club. Unfortunately his effort was tame and former Sunderland man Jordan Pickford was able to keep it out. It was no doubt the moment of the match for Everton fans.

Everton's social media team tried to roast Anthony Gordon

The way in which Anthony Gordon left Goodison Park for Newcastle left a bad taste in the mouths of the Toffees fans and they are never likely to let him forget it.

To stir the pot a bit more, Everton's official social media account posted a video of Gordon's missed penalty with the famous Family Fortunes buzzer playing as the shot is saved.

As far as creativity goes, it's a solid 3/10, but it got a rise out of the Newcastle fans and, quite surprisingly, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher who launched a scathing attack on the club for the post.

Jamie Carragher was not happy with Everton's social media team

Carragher pointed out how Gordon was once a hero to Evertonians for keeping them in the Premier League.

"Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on & off the pitch & who you then sold for 40M.
The Peoples club!"

The former Liverpool star clarified that it's one thing for the fans to rinse a former player, but it shows a lack of class for the official social media to do so.

Personally, it was such a poor effort that it barely registered, and it's only a bit of banter. However, the debate in the replies to Carragher's post is a fun one at least.
