Newcastle United go into this weekend's fixture against Chelsea with no new injury concerns despite another setback for Callum Wilson.

Eddie Howe told reporters on Friday morning that Wilson isn't injured, but doesn't feel ready to return to action and is set to miss the next three games.

Meanwhile, another player Eddie Howe doesn't have at his disposal is Kieran Trippier who has been nursing a hamstring injury.

During his press conference this morning Eddie Howe told reporters (via The Chronicle) that Trippier has taken some time away from the club while he gets his injury treated.

Kieran Trippier is happier than Eddie Howe has seen him for a while

Trippier is having a rough year but it sounds like things are improving

As well as the injury problem, Trippier has been dealing with things at home and it has been speculated that his troubles at home were a big reason why his form for Newcastle took a nosedive and why he was so often linked with a move away.

Now, though, Eddie Howe has said that Trippier is in a much better place.

"He’s in a good place. He’s had a little bit of time away from the club due to his injury.

"He has gone to seek treatment elsewhere but we don’t envisage his injury to be a big one and we hope he will be back, if not before the international break then after the international break, ahead, I think he is in the best frame of mind that I have seen him for a few months. I think he’s in a really good place currently."

Trippier will be back before the international break ... or after

We love the typically vague return date from Eddie Howe there - if not before the international break then after - that really narrows that down.

In all seriousness we're glad that Trippier is getting things together and hopefully that will translate to performances on the field too.

We still expect that Trippier will have moved on before next season whether it be in January or the summer, but if we can still get a few more top performances out of the 34-year-old we'll be more than happy.
