Sunday sees a full list of Premier League fixtures being played at the same time as the season comes to an end with Newcastle United away at Brentford.
Newcastle fans will not be too upset to see the back of this season for every big moment there have been several bad ones, usually in the form of injuries but there have been a few honking performances to cast our minds back on too.
Wednesday night against Manchester United was a weird one as it wasn't so much a bad performance in hindsight, it was just a series of poor mistakes that led to three Manchester United goals and you simply cannot do that in the Premier League against any opponent.
The Magpies would have guaranteed a finish above Manchester United by just picking up a point on Wednesday but now they go into the final game needing a win just to secure seventh, not to mention their first Premier League finish higher than Manchester United. Newcastle could also do with Chelsea somehow being beaten by Bournemouth so that we could claim sixth but we need to focus on ourselves first and foremost.
Chris Sutton has made his score prediction for the BBC and it's not pleasant reading for the Toon Army.
"Brentford's form has picked up recently and they will want to end the season on a high note, at home on the final day.
"Their manager Thomas Frank has been linked with the Manchester United job, and I understand that in a way, because he's done an excellent job with the Bees.
"Newcastle United need to at least match Manchester United's result against Brighton to make sure of finishing seventh. I'm expecting Eddie Howe's side to do that, but it won't be easy.
"Sutton's prediction: 2-2"
A draw is neither use nor ornament really as Manchester United travel to Brighton in good spirits after getting one over on us on Wednesday. As Sutton says, we need to at least match their result, but ideally, we must win so that their result is irrelevant.
We'd still be relying on Manchester United to lose the FA Cup final to pick up our European place anyway should we finish seventh, so there's still the potential for more agony even after the season has ended.
Roll on June when this season is behind us and the Adidas partnership begins and the positivity returns.
