When you think of Newcastle United, you often think of the iconic strikers we've had throughout the years: Jackie Milburn, Hughie Gallacher, Malcolm Macdonald, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, Callum Wilson and now Alexander Isak.

Of the aforementioned players, though, one of them stands out as an oddity, and that's Alexander Isak,

All the others wore the iconic Number 9 - of course, in the case of Les Ferdinand, he didn't have it long before Alan Shearer came and took it off him.

But since Isak signed for Newcastle, he's worn the number 14 on his back as Callum Wilson still occupies that number 9 shirt.

Alexander Isak could refuse the number 9 shirt when Callum Wilson leaves

Isak is happy with his number 14 shirt as it's the number he wore when he signed for Borussia Dortmund, it's also an iconic number with his hero Thierry Henry sporting the 14, and of course, at Newcastle, David Ginola is perhaps the most famous number 14.

However, when asked by Rob Lee on the Adopted Geordie podcast whether he'd take the number 9 in the future, Isak said he'd probably stick with his current number.

"I would probably stay with 14, yeah."

Rob Lee tried to convince Isak that taking the number 9 would have to happen

Rob Lee then tried to convince him that the fans would demand that he takes the number 9 and rounded off a few names to try and convince him.

"I think it's a difficult one because I've been successful with 14, and it would probably not be an easy decision."

If we thought for one second that him switching numbers would jinx him, then let him keep it. Scoring goals on a regular basis is more important than the number on his back.
