We've said it before but Newcastle United has a way of getting under the skin of players who previously had no connection to the club.

Shay Given, Warren Barton and Rob Lee all came to Newcastle without a single connection to the club beforehand and still to this day support the club and refer to Newcastle as "us".

We absolutely love it and, while in his interview with FourFourTwo, he never actually referred to Newcastle as "us" or "we", DeAndre Yedlin did say that he still follows Newcastle.

Now playing back in his native USA for Cincinatti, Yedlin served five years on Tyneside after appearing on loan at Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur.

DeAndre Yedlin was part of Newcastle's Rafalution

Rafa Benitez brought in Yedlin to help Newcastle bounce back into the Premier League after he was unable to save them from relegation. Benitez got the Magpies back into the top flight at the first time of asking and Yedlin sang the gaffer's praises in the interview with FourFourTwo.

“In hindsight, it [Sunderland] was probably one of the most important chapters of my life. But when I moved to Newcastle, it was a big moment for me because all my friends at home knew Newcastle. To play for such a historic club, in that stadium, under Rafa Benitez, a legendary coach, was a significant moment.”

“We had a great team and were on the ball a lot, which allowed me to play how I was used to playing. I loved Rafa. His game is organised and disciplined, focused more on the defensive side.

“He really challenged me on positioning defensively, which was probably my weakest point. I was always quite fast, so I could make up for positional mistakes, but at that level, you get exposed in that area.”

DeAndre Yedlin still follows Newcastle United

Yedlin admits that people still remember him as a Newcastle player over any other club he's represented. Bearing in mind that he captained Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

Despite having played for several clubs since he left Tyneside, Yedlin admitted he still follows Newcastle.

"I still follow Newcastle. I obviously want the best for the club. The club did so much for me, so I think it's important to follow them and support them. I'm extremely happy that the club has found success, and for me, that's what the fans deserve."
