21-year-old right-back Harrison Ashby looks set for a season-long loan move to Swansea City, according to a report from the BBC.

Ashby scored the winner in our 2-1 win at Rangers last week when playing in an unusual right-wing position, but he always looked a likely candidate to go out on loan this season. He currently has Kieran Trippier, Javier Manquillo, and Emil Krafth ahead of him in the battle for the right-back berth, with Newcastle consistently linked to Tino Livramento of Southampton this summer as well.

Yet to make a competitive appearance for the club since joining for around £3 million from West Ham in January, it's clear that the Scotland Under-21 star needs first-team football, having only made eight senior appearances for West Ham previously.

Swansea City manager Michael Duff spoke to the media in a post-match press conference following his side's pre-season defeat to Oxford United and said that loan moves for two Premier League players were "pretty much done". The BBC and WalesOnline have done some digging and have uncovered that the players in question are Ashby and Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

From where we're sitting, a loan move to a Championship club that will potentially be gunning for promotion looks ideal for Ashby, who clearly needs to get some minutes in men's football. He's shown flashes of quality in his pre-season appearances to date and impressed in cameos for West Ham, so there's definitely a future for him at St. James' Park if he's able to add some guile to his obvious natural talent.

If you haven't seen anything, or much of anything, from Ashby, here's a highlight reel of his best moments that was put together soon after he became one of Eddie Howe's Mags:
