The Carabao Cup is often a competition in which Premier League managers will rest their big stars and give a couple of fringe players a run out.

However, Newcastle United believe this is a competition they can win and as such aren't likely to mess about with team selection, especially at the quarter-final stage.

Eddie Howe withdrew a few big players early in the win over Leicester City at the weekend, suggesting he wanted them as fresh as possible for Wednesday night.

With that in mind, we aren't expecting Howe to make any changes to the side that played so well on Saturday.

As you were

Goalkeeper

Martin Dubravka - Nick Pope remains injured and even though he had nothing to do, Dubravka kept a clean sheet on Saturday so why change him?

Defenders

Tino Livramento - Again there was a debate whether Kieran Trippier would get a run out over Tino, but as good as Tripps was at the weekend, we feel Howe's going to stick with what worked.

Fabian Schar - Options are thin on the ground to change it up for this position so Schar gets in by default anyway.

Dan Burn - BDB will be wanting as much action as possible while he can with Sven Botman getting ever closer to a return.

Lewis Hall - Hall is gunning for that Player of the Season accolade. Howe would be crazy to drop him.

MIdfielders

Bruno Guimaraes - Bruno playing as a number eight seems to work well for Newcastle so that where we see him playing on Wedensday night.

Sandro Tonali - Tonali has performed better in the number six role than any other and him holding back allows Bruno to get forward. It's finally working.

Joelinton - Joey will be suspended for Saturday's game at Ipswich so might as well play the full 90 here.

Forwards

Jacob Murphy - Two goals and two assists in the last two games. We don't see him being dropped after that.

Alexander Isak - Grabbed a goal on Saturday but missed a couple of sitters so he needs to keep plugging away to get his confidence up.

Anthony Gordon - Like Hall behind him, Eddie Howe would be crazy to drop him, especially given how well the pair are starting to click together.

We toyed around with changes, like Trippier over Tino and perhaps even a rare run out for Will Osula to give Isak a rest, but we feel the fixture is too important for experimentation.

If Newcastle truly want to win this competition, we need to treat it with respect and that means putting out a full team.
