Newcastle United were due to face AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane on Tuesday evening in the Carabao Cup.

After some recent bad weather which has caused flooding and damage to the pitch, the game has now been postponed.

It's a blow for Newcastle, really, who could have used a game against a lower-league side to build some confidence back up after the heavy defeat to Fulham on Saturday.

For now there's a chance that the game is rearranged, but should Wimbledon be unable to provide an alternative date Newcastle could be given a bye to the next round.

The club has confirmed that tomorrow's game is off

Tomorrow's Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon has been postponed following extensive overnight flooding at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. Further details will be announced in due course.

On one hand this could prove to be a good thing as it gives Eddie Howe more time to focus on training ahead of a very tough game on Saturday.

Manchester City come to St James' Park off the back of a hard-fought 2-2 draw with title challengers Arsenal on Sunday. Despite having a one-man advantage for the second half of the game, City struggled to find the goal to pull themselves level until John Stones popped up with a scrappy equaliser right at the death.

City looked far from their usual selves, and that could be the little bit of hope Newcastle needs to attack the game with confidence.

The two clubs are in discussions over a new date

Meanwhile, we hope that AFC Wimbledon can get their pitch repaired and provide us with an actual game. A bye would be nice, but we'd rather go through on merit and give them a chance too.

We're sure Eddie Howe was a touch relieved this morning too as his pre-match press conference has also been cancelled.

It could have been a rough one for him after Saturday's performance.
