As Newcastle United struggle to get any business done in the transfer window they are expected to have a busy last few days.

The Magpies have not exactly been prolific when it comes to bringing players in and letting others go so far this window, so if they are to correct that before the August 30th deadline, they need to up their game.

Ryan Fraser's move to Southampton was an open goal and yet he remains on the books. Isaac Hayden is still a Newcastle player despite talks of a mutual contract termination, now it looks like he will be loaned out, but as of yet, he remains at St James' Park.

Kieran Trippier's future is up in the air as is that of Miguel Almiron but there's nothing more than rumours fuelling that right now.

A return to Southampton could be on the cards for Matt Targett

Forgotten full-back could be on the move

Another player who now looks set to leave on loan is forgotten man Matt Targett.

The former Aston Villa full-back joined on a permanent basis for £15 million in the summer of 2022 after an impressive loan spell, but since that deal was done, we've rarely seen the 28-year-old in action due to a series of injuries.

Targett was on the bench for Newcastle's season opener against Southampton after finally returning to fitness, but with Lewis Hall now looking to make that left-back spot his own and Dan Burn and Lloyd Kelly both able to play left-back, it seems Targett has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Four clubs are keen on Targett

The Boot Room has claimed that four Premier League clubs are keen to acquire his services this season, two of which will be familiar to him.

Southampton and Fulham, both former clubs of Targett, have been joined by Brentford and Nottingham Forest in their interest.

After two seasons of being pretty much absent, we can't imagine too many Newcastle fans would be too sad about him leaving on loan this season. As for whether Newcastle can get a deal done - any deal - remains to be seen, though.
