Former Sunderland boss Jack Ross has been at Newcastle United since March 2023 where he was appointed as head of coach development.

Since then Ross has taken interim charge of the academy alongside Neil Winskill after Ben Dawson left the club to link up with Leicester City.

Recently Newcastle appointed Diarmuid O'Carroll as Dawson's successor allowing Jack Ross to return to his previous role.

However, as updated by Jack Ross himself via LinkedIn, it seems that the Scot has landed a new role at Newcastle.

Is Jack Ross now reporting directly to Peter Silverstone?

Jack Ross announced his new role via LinkedIn

We're not sure if the length of one's job title is in any way related to the importance of the position, but if so then it seems Jack Ross has got himself a hefty promotion.

“I am happy to share that I am starting a new position as Head of Strategic Technical Partnerships at Newcastle United Football Club”.

Hopefully we'll get word from the club about what this actually means because to us, it sounds very much like what Peter Silverstone does. We're sure there's some difference between 'Strategic Technical Partnerships' and 'Commercial Partnerships' or maybe he just works directly for Silverstone.

Dan Ashworth mentored Jack Ross to become a sporting director

Looking back on past quotes from Jack Ross it seems like this is another stepping stone on the route to becoming a sporting director if we look at what he told Not The Old Firm.

“Sporting director is an area I want to pursue because ironically I don’t think there’s that many people with my background in the role. That’s surprising and if you do a deeper dive there’s actually not that many who have been managers or players.

“Dan [Ashworth] mentored me and spent a lot of time with me and one of the gaps I had in my CV was academy experience so this has been brilliantly insightful.

“I thought I knew it all in football but far from it. If I was to be a first team manager again there are bits that I would definitely take into it from here, which is the greatest compliment I could pay it.”

Hopefully he didn't take lessons on loyalty from Mr Ashworth, eh?
