Newcastle United are facing a battle to keep hold of star striker Alexander Isak - at least that's what some journalists would have you believe.

For a long time the media were convinced that Alexander Isak was going to join Arsenal one way or another, but the focus has now switched to Liverpool with a crazy story doing the rounds yesterday.

A report surfaced suggesting that Liverpool would offer striker Darwin Nunez as part of a deal to take Isak to Anfield.

Our write-up yesterday was pretty clear about our thoughts on that idea, and thanks to Fabrizio Romano, common sense has returned to the fore today.

Alexander Isak is unlikely to leave Newcastle this summer (as things stand)

Fabrizio Romano says there has been no contact around Alexander Isak

Speaking to Give Me Sport, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Isak to Liverpool, or indeed anywhere, stories.

"Nothing ongoing in terms of contacts now for Isak, full focus on Newcastle. Time for talks and decisions on future will be in the summer."

Newcastle have made it clear that no big stars will be sold this summer and that the transfer window will be about building a team around our existing stars, so even in the summer, we don't expect there to be any actual action, just tonnes of speculation.

We're braced for many more crazy Alexander Isak stories between now and next season

It's anyone's game between now and September over who comes up with the most outrageous Alexander Isak story before the summer transfer window shuts, but the Darwin Nunez swap deal is going to take some beating, let's be honest.

As long as everything in reality keeps pointing towards Isak remaining at the club, as it does now, then we'll continue to enjoy and poke fun at the barrage of fantasy stories surrounding our star striker.

Let's just enjoy the ride until there's actually something to worry about.
