It's match day and while we're all distracted by the thought of battering Bournemouth on their home turf for the first time under Eddie Howe, Newcastle United's transfer window continues to turn to dust.

Fabrizio Romano already confirmed that right-wing target Nico Gonzalez is off to Juventus with the player seen arriving for his medical.

But Romano wasn't content with just that, he also confirmed that Brighton and Hove Albion are close to agreeing a double deal for two players who have both appeared on Newcastle's transfer wish list.

Thankfully, neither player is one that any Newcastle fan was really pinning their hopes and dreams on, but at this point, it's more about the principle of the thing.

Brighton have had an amazing transfer window

Brighton are about to close the deals for Turkish full-back Ferdi Kadioglu and Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley, both of whom have at one point been identified as Newcastle targets.

The double deal looks set to cost Brighton around £60 million in total to go alongside the £33 million they paid Newcastle for Yankba Minteh, £40 million for Georginio Rutter and £27 million a piece for Matts Wieffer and Brajan Gruda (another Newcastle target) and it makes you wonder - who is the club with the world's richest owners again?

With these two signings that will see Brighton having signed three players linked with Newcastle plus one Newcastle player.

Where is our ambition?

Again, it's not about the players. We weren't getting excited for Matt O'Riley or Ferdi Kadioglu. Brajan Gruda looks decent and Yankuba Minteh hasn't exactly had a bad start at Brighton, but it's about the differing levels of transfer activity - the level of ambition.

Newcastle have taken a month to get a deal done for one player and it still isn't done. We've had all window to ship out Miguel Almiron and find a replacement. We've brought in one free transfer, confirmed the signing of a player who was already at the club and brought in two goalkeepers we didn't want/need and don't get us started on PSR and that whole nightmare.

And now there's only a week left to go to get anything done.

Something seems off, doesn't it? Has PSR really ruined the game that much that we're now terrified of spending money or is something going on behind the scenes?
