Newcastle United fans are counting down the hours until midnight tonight when Bruno Guimaraes' £100million release clause expires.

Even though Bruno Guimaraes has stated quite clearly many times that he has no intention of leaving Newcastle, the fact that he had a £100million release clause has been a constant cause of stress for many fans.

While we know that the deadline for that clause was today, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that it is in fact midnight tonight when the clause expires meaning that some ambitious club with £100million to spare could still try their luck.

However, Romano has provided an update on the situation that should once again calm the nerves of many a fan.

Man City and PSG are still interested in Bruno

Speaking to Ben Jacobs for Caught Offside, Romano has claimed that there are no talks underway for Bruno Guimaraes.

"Look, never say never in football but what I’m told at the moment is that Bruno Guimaraes is not entertaining any talk with any clubs so it should be something surprising and shocking to see Bruno leaving Newcastle in the final moments of his release-clause.

“So at the moment I am told nothing is happening. There are no negotiations.

“It’s all quiet around Bruno. But let’s see what happens in July and in August because interest from other clubs remain. We know Man City really appreciate him but at the moment we don’t know how much they want to invest in a midfielder and the outgoings.

“For Bruno there is also interest from PSG but this is not advanced, although the interest is there.”

Journos will not rest on Bruno until the window closes

Romano suggests that clubs may still try their luck for Bruno this summer, but the chances of anything being done via his release clause are minuscule. I suppose he has to leave the window open for him to keep reporting on his exit.

After tonight, Newcastle can once again freely bat away any offers that come their way, and we fully expect that's exactly what they'll do unless something happens that makes Bruno want to leave, which, again, is unlikely.

Mind, if someone comes in with an offer well over £100million, the club would be mental to turn it down, no matter how much we all love him.
