Newcastle United's injury curse struck again in the 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

While the Magpies went on to win comfortably, they did so at the expense of two very important players.

Fabian Schar lasted less than a quarter of an hour before pulling up with what looked like a hamstring injury and then 20 minutes later he was followed by Joelinton who was also feeling his hamstring.

Schar and Joelinton will likely be missing from the squad to face Chelsea

Both players are now extremely unlikely to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

The good news is that Eddie Howe said that neither injury looks serious, and even better is that Fabian Schar's injury could be his glute rather than his hamstring which should see a much quicker recovery.

In fact, the player himself issued an update on Instagram reel suggesting he'll not be missing for too long.

"Great result. Hope to be back soon."

Penalties could be on the cards on Tuesday night

Now that Newcastle are out of Europe we'd expect that Eddie Howe will go with the strongest team possible to take on Chelsea tomorrow to ensure progression in the Carabao Cup, especially after coming so close last season.

Hopefully, the Magpies can shake off this awful away form and come away with a victory in London. Extra time doesn't start until the semi-final stage of the Carabao Cup so if it's all square at full-time tomorrow night, it goes straight to penalties.

That nervy ending almost seems inevitable given the way our season is going, but as we can't seem to win in normal time on the road, maybe a shoot-out is how we do it.
