Newcastle United's summer transfer window is going to be one focused mainly on additions after using January to trim the squad.

There will be some outgoings for sure, a few players could leave when their contracts expire, while the club could try and cash in on one or two more.

However, Newcastle will once again play in Europe next season, which means they absolutely must bulk up the squad to be able to cope and prevent an injury crisis like the one that hampered us last season.

Another big thing that comes with playing in Europe is having homegrown players among the ranks. It's what could provide Sean Longstaff with yet another stay of execution, although it does seem likely he will still leave.

Lewis Miley still has plenty of potential to fulfil at Newcastle

Former Sunderland scout believes Newcastle may look to cash in on Lewis Miley

One homegrown player we don't expect to be leaving the club is Lewis Miley. The youngster has become an instant hit with the Toon Army, and while his minutes have been limited this season, he's still seen as a massive player for the future.

Which makes this claim by former Sunderland scout Mick Brown (via Football Insider) seem absolutely bonkers.

“Eddie Howe has got to make a big decision. The lad has come through the academy system, he’s done well, but can he go on and cement himself in the side to make them a better team?

“If the answer to that is no, and I have a feeling it might be when you look at the options they’ve got in his position, they could look to move him on.

“With the FFP and PSR thing going on, they feel they can make some decent money from him. He’s definitely one of the players I can see them looking to cash in on.

“Whatever he is sold for would be pure profit, and we know how valuable that is, so if they get a big offer they might have no choice but to accept it.

“It’s a similar story to what Man United have had with Kobbie Mainoo. In an ideal world, you keep these players and they come through the academy to make a difference, but the way things are if you get offers you have to consider them.”

We simply do not see Newcastle letting go of Lewis Miley this summer

PSR isn't as much of an issue for Newcastle this summer, so they won't have to repeat the mistake they made with Elliot Anderson again, and even if they did have to sell, we just don't see a world where we try and cash in on Lewis Miley.

We expect that the 18-year-old will get a lot more game time next season, thanks to Newcastle's increased fixture list, plus his homegrown status makes him even more valuable to the club.

We've seen plenty of stories from Mick Brown on Football Insider about Newcastle, and we've yet to see one we've actually agreed with. The man is stealing a living if he's getting paid to say this stuff.
