Newcastle United have struggled to make an impression in a competitive transfer market over the last 12 months.
It has been tough for Newcastle fans to cope with the lack of signings. The lingering woes of PSR are ever present and a catalyst as to why The Magpies haven't been as active as they would have liked.
In summer, the only impactful deal to the first team was making Lewis Hall's loan move from Chelsea permanent with the signings of Odysseas Vlachodimos and William Osula not ones that will set the world alight.
It felt like an odd summer, which it inevitably was. The appointment of Paul Mitchell as the clubs sporting director is a positive move but joining in between a transfer window was always going to be tough. Plans for the window were already in place and it became tough for him to put his stamp on things.
The club were adamant on signing defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer with an offer in the region of £70million on the table at one point. While a deal for the defender remains on the cards it would not be likely the fee would be significantly less than what was offered in summer.
However, Howe and Mitchell may be left frustrated after recent musings from Newcastle's big bosses.
According to TBR, Newcastle bosses have told Howe that he may need to wait until the summer transfer window before he makes any additions to the squad.
Howe has reportedly already given his January wish list to Mitchell but this latest bombshell could put any plans they had on hold.
The decision comes down to PSR, the thought for months has been that Newcastle will need to sell before they can buy again.
Guehi is a target alongside Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo. Howe is keen on bringing in a right winger and right-sided central defender to bolster his options and improve overall quality.
There are rumours of several exits in the upcoming transfer window, many of those who have been at the club for a long period of time.
Callum Wilson has been linked with a move away as his contract winds down. The 32-year-old's deal is up in summer with clubs like Fulham and Southampton keen on bringing him in. It will be the last chance for the Magpies to get a fee for him so expect to see him offered out to clubs in January.
Miguel Almiron has been told he is free to look for a new club. The 30-year-old has fallen out of the first team picture as of late and doesn't look like he will be returning any time soon. He has interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Kieran Trippier is another player Newcastle are willing to listen to offers for. At 34, Howe and co are eager to drop his £120k-a-week wage in favour of a younger talent.
