Eddie Howe provides update on Yoane Wissa - Earmarks game for potential Newcastle United debut
Newcastle United finally signed Yoane Wissa on deadline day this summer, costing the Magpies £55 million.
Brentford will have been laughing all the way to the bank, securing such a fee for a player who was two days away from turning 29 and had just one year remaining on his contract, but they played their game brilliantly in the market and got their reward.
Yoane Wissa employed the book of dirty tricks to secure his move, downing tools and releasing a statement, and then, shortly after his move, the DR Congo star picked up a knee injury while on international duty.
Possibly a wee bit of karma coming into play, but if that's truly the case, where's Alexander Isak's ACL injury?
Eddie Howe hopes to have Yoane Wissa back in contention for the Brighton game
As a result of his injury, Wissa is yet to make his debut for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe having to throw record signing Nick Woltemade in at the deep end on Saturday, which actually proved to be of benefit to the Magpies, with the giant German scoring the only goal of the game against Wolves.
Eddie Howe faced the media this afternoon ahead of tomorrow's Champions League game with Barcelona, and the gaffer was asked for an update on Wissa, with Howe setting a possible target for Wissa's debut.
“Yoane will, we hope, be back after the next international break, I think that's Brighton, so that's the plan. That can always change, it's always flexible, but I think that's what I've been told.”
Yoane Wissa will miss six more games through injury
That does, of course, mean that Wissa will miss another six games for Newcastle after missing Saturday's match. It's a big blow considering his impeccable injury record before he signed for the club.
Nick Woltemade has proved that he's up for the challenge of leading the line despite his young age and relative lack of experience, however.
The 6'6" man just needs to get his fitness levels up to match the rigours of the Premier League after he admitted to cramping up after an hour on Saturday.
