Eddie Howe is often one of the most diplomatic managers in football when it comes to interviews with the Newcastle United boss rarely giving anything away.

The Magpies gaffer is pretty adept at not answering questions with his responses and let's be honest, flat-out lying when he feels it necessary.

Almost every word he speaks during interviews seems carefully crafted for maximum effect - look at his recent interview regarding his happiness at Newcastle - every word seemed barbed and like a warning to the hierarchy that they have to treat him right or he'll leave.

In his latest interview with Sky Sports, Eddie Howe is asked about Profit and Sustainability Rules and his response, while again, calm and collected, was the equivalent of a Neil Warnock-style rant to camera but with Howe's trademark cool.

Eddie Howe was RAGING in his own calm way

After touching on having to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson in order to comply with PSR, Howe goes on to suggest that the rules are promoting the idea that clubs have to sell these players they spend so much time and effort developing, saying it goes against what Financial Fair Play was meant to do.

"I think the only disappointment the rules is that it's almost promoting you to sell players that you have developed. Without going too deep into it, the book price for players and the academy prospects that you bring through, you get rewarded the most for selling them. That just defies, to me, the point of Financial Fair Play, you should be encouraged to keep those players.

"There are things we have to navigate and PSR is probably the biggest obstacle in our way to develop as quickly as possible. That's what we all want but we have to comply with those rules, obviously."

Let's have another rant about PSR

PSR is one of the worst things to happen to the game in recent times. It was set up with the best intentions - or at least under the guise of good intentions - to prevent clubs spiralling into debt by spending beyond their means in the transfer market.

Unfortunately, all they succeeded in doing was ringfencing those clubs with a huge head start and preventing clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa, who have the means, from spending their own money to close the gap.

Again, we are not football finance experts, but even those within the game can see that PSR is not fit for purpose, but the Premier League are so stubborn that they can't admit they were wrong and won't rip that page out of the rule book so now we're stuck with this muted league and boring transfer windows. January was shockingly quiet and it's not as if this summer has been noteworthy either.
