Happy New Year, everyone! Here we go! It's January and the transfer window is open so it's time to endure a month of speculation and strange stories surrounding Newcastle United's current and possibly future players.
We're kicking off the year with a familiar story as Eddie Howe is trying to keep hold of players the club want and need to sell.
Newcastle must sell players on this month to stand any chance of big summer signings as PSR continues to be a huge problem.
However, Eddie Howe as abandonment issues and can't seem to part with players he likes regardless of whether or not it makes sense for the club.
Personally, I'm not convinced that Eddie Howe didn't injure Callum Wilson again to make sure he couldn't be sold this month, but that's by the by.
Another player tipped to leave is Kieran Trippier who has been on the verge of an exit from the club since last January, but Eddie Howe seems to have the 34-year-old locked in his basement so that he can't be sold.
The board recognise that now is their best chance to cash in on the ageing defender and get his massive wages off the books.
The Sun are reporting that Eddie Howe doesn't want to let the former England international go, and we can see why given the lack of cover for Tino Livramento right now.
However, as mentioned, Trippier's wages are huge and just clearing those off the books would unlock a fair bit of leeway in terms of PSR.
Trippier has been excellent in the last two games for Newcastle when Tino was ill, probably his best performances of the year, but that should prove to interested clubs that he could still be of value to them. I don't want Trippier to leave, he's been the most important signing of the new regime, but it just makes sense financially.
