Eddie Howe seized the opportunity to voice a few concerns with the changes at Newcastle United when speaking to the media on Friday.

While Newcastle fans were hoping for a definitive "I'm not leaving" moment akin to Leonardo Di Caprio in the Wolf of Wall Street, what we got was the Toon gaffer using his time with the media to state that he's happy at the club and as long as that remains the case, he'll stay - which has been taken as a thinly-veiled message to the board.

'Control freak' is probably a bit harsh, but it's clear that Eddie Howe certainly likes things a certain way and expects everyone around him to go along with his methods.

So with Newcastle bringing in a new sporting director in Paul Mitchell, Howe is naturally concerned about the dynamic of the club changing and finding himself cut out of certain decisions.

Eddie Howe has been given reassurances over his role at the club

Darren Eales saw fit to speak to Eddie Howe after Friday's remarks

The Telegraph are reporting today that the fallout from Howe's interview was not him being hauled into the office for a dressing down but that of being called in to be offered reassurances.

"Newcastle had not been warned Howe would go public with his frustrations and rather than rebuke their manager, the key power brokers have offered reassurances he will continue to hold significant power and will not be reduced to a first-team coach.

"In those meetings, led by chief executive Darren Eales, they also reassured Howe he would have a say in recruitment and be involved in all major decisions over the club’s direction of travel."

This shows that the Newcastle board are still 100% behind Eddie Howe and they don't want to see their main man turn his back on the club and take up the England manager position that he's been so heavily linked with.

Transfers are still a big thing that need sorting

There are still a lot of things to be worked on at the club and transfers, both incoming and outgoing, remain a huge part of that, so it's good that Howe won't be cut out of that process as, at the end of the day, it's he who has to pick the team, and if he's being handed players he's had no input in acquiring, he's not going to know how to get the best out of them for a long time.

While there are only four week until the start of the new campaign, that's still plenty of time for new faces to come into the side and for the club to move on a couple of players and recoup some money.

Now that things appear to have been sorted out behind the scenes, the club can crack on with everyone pulling in the same direction.
