After becoming the first English manager to lift a domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp in 2008, Eddie Howe's stock in English football continues to rise.
The Newcastle United boss finally brought silverware to the Geordies after a 56-year wait and Eddie Howe, who is already regarded as an exceptional manager, climbed up another rung on the ladder.
While pundits are still baffled that Howe wasn't approached about the England job following Gareth Southgate's resignation, Newcastle fans are definitely relieved they didn't.
Eddie Howe often distanced himself from the role, admitting it's something he'd love to do in the future, but now he loves the day-to-day grind involved with managing at club level.
England's loss was Newcastle's gain but now TalkSPORT have put forward Eddie Howe's name as a suggestion as the only English manager who could replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
TalkSPORT host, Jim White said: “If Pep Guardiola leaves Man City, I couldn’t see them bringing in an English manager," but Danny Murphy soon chimed in.
“Eddie Howe could manage at Man City.”
Simon Jordan agreed with Danny Murphy and went on to say that Howe is the exception.
“He’s an exception. There is an argument for Eddie Howe.
“But yet again it is a different dynamic.
“Newcastle have come from a position where the ownership model brought out such a reaction from the fanbase. The currency that’s gone behind Newcastle in terms of the energy behind the team because anybody but [Mike] Ashley came in, and the fact they’ve bought well and Eddie has done a decent job.
“But when you go to the champions of England or a club that’s won the Premier League five times in the last decade, the expectations are very different.”
Thankfully, for Newcastle fans, this is all hypothetical and there is nothing to suggest that Eddie Howe has any designs on leaving the club, and we highly doubt the club has any plans to let him leave either.
Indeed, it has been reported that Howe will net a nice £3 million-a-year pay rise if he delivers Champions League football this season.
