The mixed messages coming out of Newcastle United during this transfer window is giving fans whiplash.

If you've been following Newcastle's transfer activity leading up to and now into January and you feel like you know what's going on, then please send your answers on a postcard to We Hate PSR, PO Box 1, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 GOTACLUE.

On a given day, we can be told how the club has no money due to PSR, and then five minutes later, we're putting together a £33 million bid for a winger from PSG and that can both come from the same outlet.

Meanwhile, the message has been that outgoings will be the focus of the January window to help build up some headroom to spend in the summer.

The reluctance to sell Martin Dubravka makes sense

Eddie Howe doesn't want to see any players leave this month

That was one that sounded very likely and sensible, but now Eddie Howe has thrown that out of the window when speaking to the media this morning (via The Chronicle) insisting that now is not the time to sell anyone.

"I said at the start of January we didn't really want to focus on any outgoings. It's not a month we want to destabilise anything. We need to try and keep the harmony of the group. The feeling is really strong at the moment, as you can imagine."

We get that things are good right now and losing players could upset that, but we're only looking to let go of fringe players who should have been gone long ago. Miguel Almiron is rotting on the bench and his value is decreasing daily. Now is the time to offload him and get some money while we can. Injuries are making the Martin Dubravka and Callum Wilson situations difficult, we get that.

Eddie Howe's refusal to let go of players is going to cost us

Sometimes, though, it's like Eddie Howe is allergic to money. He'd rather keep hold of players than cash in on them to build up his coffers to buy new, younger, better players.

Paul Mitchell must be pulling his hair out. He'll know the importance of selling these players now while they have worth and how that will help him in the future.

However, Eddie Howe's basement is getting so full of chained-up reserve players that he won't let go. We don't want to push that annoying Mitchell versus Howe narrative again that we had to endure in the summer, but the two definitely don't seem to be on the same page, and they need to get a grip and come to a consensus.
