So far we're yet to hear from Anthony Gordon following his dismissal against Brighton on Sunday, which contributed to Newcastle United's FA Cup exit.
We're pretty sure fans would love to hear Anthony Gordon's thoughts on the matter - what was going through his head, what he was actually trying to do and how he feels knowing he's going to miss the Carabao Cup final as a result of his actions.
Bruno Guimaraes posted on social media yesterday trying to shoulder the blame for Newcastle's cup exit, knowing that most people will be pointing fingers at Gordon, even though the Brazilian didn't mention any names.
Indeed, other than Eddie Howe's post-match thoughts, we've not heard much from the Newcastle United camp about the incident until now.
Dan Burn has spoken to the Northern Echo where he talked about the incident, but the big defender did mention that he'd not seen the replays and hadn't spoken to Gordon at this point, so it suggests the interview was shortly after the game.
“I haven’t spoken to Anthony yet. I haven’t even watched it back, to be honest. But when I first saw it, I was surprised the red card came out. He’s going to be disappointed, isn’t he? I really don’t think there was any sort of intent there, he’s not that type of player. It’s just a real shame for him.”
Burn's comments echo those of Eddie Howe in that neither believe there was any intent of malice by Gordon, and that much we definitely believe.
There was a point when I'd have labeled Gordon as a dirty player with a temper, but those were his Everton days, and indeed his early Newcastle days - we all remember that spat with Eddie Howe after being subbed.
However, Gordon has matured since joining Newcastle and the more of him we see off the pitch the more we get to see the real Anthony Gordon. He's immensely kind-hearted, but very driven and competitive, so it's easy to see why he could lose his head.
Gordon wasn't having a good game on Sunday, and hasn't actually been good at all of late, and that will have been affecting his mood, and it looks like frustrations just got the better of him on Sunday. He's still human at the end of the day, and as Alan Shearer said, nobody will be hurting more than him.
