The stance of whether or not Newcastle United will be active in the January transfer window changes more than the direction of the wind.

One minute there's no way the club will be buying anyone due to PSR, the next minute we're linked with three different players all over £25 million a piece.

We expect that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. PSR is definitely still an issue, but there is a plan to try and add to the squad in January while player sales are also possible.

A couple of names of potential signings have hung around heading into January leading fans to believe there could be some movement.

Johan Bakayoko will not come cheap if Newcastle want to take him away from PSV

Recently stories surrounding a move for Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov have gathered pace suggesting there could be some truth to that rumour, while before that, there was a strong belief that Newcastle were at the front of the queue for PSV winger Johan Bakayoko.

The 21-year-old Belgian is turning heads at PSV and reportedly Newcastle believe he could be a fantastic, cost-effective solution to their lack of depth down the right flank.

However, PSVInside are now saying that the club are 'not inclined' to let their top players go, which includes Bakayoko.

Additionally, Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink has relayed a message from within the club that outlines their stance on selling players in January.

“PSV desperately need the current group, including Johan Bakayoko, Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman. PSV aren’t really interested in this, except for bids well above the market value, and are still participating on three fronts.”

So it seems that if Newcastle are truly keen on Johan Bakayoko they're going to have to cough up some serious money.
