Newcastle United defied the odds to come from 1-3 down to snatch a 4-3 win over West Ham United at St James' Park.

Before kick-off the game had the feel of a must-win for Newcastle who needed to close the four-point gap between themselves and their opponents who are both hoping to be in those European qualification spots come the end of the season, however by the time West Ham's third goal went in, Newcastle fans would have been happy enough just to see their lads survive the game.

The Toon Army went through every possible emotion from joy, to anger, despair, elation and everything in between over the course of the match, but a for a large period of time there was just an overwhelming feeling of resignation. I was watching on already planning on sourcing images of people waving a white flag to photoshop Eddie Howe's face onto, ready to write about how we just want the season to end.

Watching on as player after player went down injured, three of whom had to be replaced at critical moments of the match - it was all just too much.

Eddie Howe will potentially have five more players missing on Tuesday

While Newcastle's patchwork team managed to find the strength to go on and win the game, there was still a huge concern over the number of players who truly put themselves on the line for the win, not to mention the super late red card for Anthony Gordon who now misses Tuesday's game against Everton.

After the game Eddie Howe gave a brief update on the three main injuries which Keith Downie relayed via X.

"Eddie Howe says it’s knee injuries for Jamaal Lascelles & Miggy Almiron, while ankle twist (again) for Tino Livramento.
"At this stage all are doubtful for Everton on Tuesday.
"Anthony Gordon also suspended.
"The carnage continues…"

The starting XI could still be strong but the bench is going to be scary

That's another four players potentially missing for Tuesday and with Fabian Schar holding his hamstring at one point through the game, there's potentially a fifth, although we expect The Toonminator to pull through as always.

Kieran Trippier missed out today but he may be available for Tuesday, and Lewis Hall once again showed that he's ready for more first-team action, so cover is there for Lascelles and Livramento.

Murphy will likely continue on right wing, but also Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes were both excellent coming off the bench and could also be in contention.

Honestly ... what were you all worried about? Oh, the state of the bench, sure.
