'Bloody fool': Simon Jordan holds Eddie Howe to account over Marc Guehi transfer saga

The blame game continues around Newcastle United as everyone has their own ideas over who is to blame for the club's poor transfer window and specifically the failure to bring in Marc Guehi.

Marc Guehi was identified as a top target by Eddie Howe when Paul Mitchell came into the club, and Mitchell set about making it his mission to deliver for his head coach.

Crystal Palace strung Mitchell along feeding him false hope that the deal was close before moving the goalposts, but not enough that Newcastle would walk away, before pulling the rug entirely on deadline day.

Mitchell was made to look a fool, the club as a whole looked stupid, and Steve Parish is probably still laughing to himself about it all.

Simon Jordan says Eddie Howe is a fool if he only identified Marc Guehi as a target

The big question is who is responsible for the mess? Is it Mitchell for failing to deliver, or Eddie Howe for only giving Mitchell one name to chase?

We'll never know the conversations that went on behind the scenes, and if Eddie Howe truly did only give Mitchell one target, then yes, he needs to be held accountable, and that's exactly what Simon Jordan has said on TalkSPORT.

"He identified a player that they weren't able to achieve, so maybe he should identified a few more players and been a bit more hands on from that respect. Because if you can't get Guehi out of Palace because Palace weren't a willing seller, then you're a bit of a bloody fool if that's the only target that you wanted."

We will never know the true reason why Newcastle failed so hard this summer

It's a fair point by Jordan, however, he knows as much as us about what went on so he's only guessing.

He goes on to mention how Amanda Staveley didn't do the deals when she was there, saying "I may be wrong", and we know he is wrong as it was shown in the Amazon documentary that she was instrumental in the move for Anthony Gordon.

As I say, we'll probably never know the reality of the situation and who said what and why nobody was brought in, but everyone will have their own opinion.
