As part of Newcastle United's weekend of window shopping in Barcelona, the Magpies have two players in their sights according to reports.

As we reported earlier, Football Insider claim that Newcastle are still in the market for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, although we remain unconvinced.

Slightly more believable, and possibly even more achievable, is a move for Andreas Christensen.

The former Chelsea centre-back has long been linked with Newcastle and now Mundo Deportivo are getting in on the act by reporting that the Magpies have made contact with Barcelona over the Dane's availability.

Newcastle are on the hunt for Guehi alternatives

Reports from Spain now link Newcastle with Andreas Christensen

It was reported a couple of days ago that Christensen could be seen as an alternative to Marc Guehi should the wheels completely come off that deal.

Newcastle are still at the table for Guehi and it is hard to imagine them walking away at this point, however, if Steve Parish and Crystal Palace keep moving the goalposts, then Newcastle may hit a breaking point.

Christensen could potentially be available for around £23 million which would save the Magpies a fortune if they pursued this deal rather than Guehi.

Newcastle must be nearing a breaking point in the Guehi deal

The Guehi saga is dragging on so much now that it might not be a bad idea to turn our attention elsewhere. The problem is we'd be starting negotiations from scratch and we are at the point now where we need someone new in sooner rather than later, especially with the transfer deadline edging ever closer.

Christensen is fair bit older than Guehi at 28, so we wouldn't likely get as much out of him, but he's still not over the hill by any means.

More importantly though, by saving £40 million by going with Christensen over Guehi, we could fund a move for a better winger which is arguably where the money needs to be spent.
