As tenuous as the link was, there were a couple of weeks where Newcastle United were reportedly interested in one of Manchester City's brightest young stars.

In fact, the rumour began when it was claimed that Manchester City would use Oscar Bobb or Rico Lewis as a makeweight for a Bruno Guimaraes bid - however, the report said that City would only loan Newcastle one of the two players as they were too valuable to sell - Newcastle couldn't take both players on loan due to the rules on loaning players from Premier League clubs.

Off the back of that, though, were a few reports suggesting that Newcastle were interested in Oscar Bobb as a transfer this summer, although it always felt very unlikely.

If Newcastle were interested though, that interest will have ended after the news that has come out this evening.

Bad news for Manchester City

Rumours had started to swirl around the online footballing world that Oscar Bobb had broken his leg in training, and now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed as much.

"Bad news for Man City as Oscar Bobb has fractured a bone in his leg.

"He’ll be out for several months as Man City sources confirm."

Bobb could now miss three months of the new season

Bobb could now miss the first three months of the season which will come as a huge blow not only to him, but Manchester City after the 21-year-old Norwegian put in some top-class performances in pre-season.

We were genuinely excited to see what the kid could do especially after being linked, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to see him in action now.

If Bobb had carried on his pre-season form into the actual season, he was destined to have a campaign to remember and would likely have solidified his place as part of the Manchester City first-team, ruling out the move to Newcastle completely.
