Newcastle United had been tipped to sign young Arsenal winger Amario Cozier-Duberry this summer after he told the Gunners he was set to leave.

Cozier-Duberry told Arsenal last month that he would leave the club when his contract expired giving Newcastle hope that they could convince the 19-year-old to move to Tyneside.

Arsenal's U18's coach, Jack Wilshere likened Cozier-Duberry to Bukayo Saka saying he is very similar to the England star and how he was around the same age.

Newcastle had been keeping tabs on Cozier-Duberry since January and when he signalled his intent to leave Arsenal, it felt like the Magpies had the chance to get their man.

Newcastle will now miss out on 19-year-old Amario Cozier-Duberry

However, there were of course other clubs keen on the promising winger, and one of those clubs was Brighton and Hove Albion who now appear to have won the race for his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a clear pathway to the first team next season looks to have been what has sealed the deal.

Brighton have of course, just bought Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle for £33million who plays in the same position, so it will be interesting to see how Brighton line up next season.

Brighton may have got themselves into a mess

Both Minteh and Cozier-Duberry can play on either flank and both are left-footed, one has been signed for a hefty fee while the other has been promised first-team football. We are intrigued.

Meanwhile, Newcastle once again see a promising young target opt to sign for another Premier League club.

Are we doing something wrong or is it just the way these things play out? It's starting to feel a bit personal.
