Gareth Southgate has seemingly admitted defeat when it comes to his Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment with the Liverpool player set to be dropped for tomorrow's final group game against Slovenia.

However, just as you think Southgate may have come to his senses and made the changes that literally everybody can see needs making - dropping Trent, moving Phil Foden into the centre and putting Anthony Gordon on the left, you'd be wrong.

In the last two matches for reasons known only to Southgate, his first substitution has been to bring off Trent and put on Conor Gallager in a move that changes precisely bot all!

The £40million-rated Chelsea midfielder had said going into the transfer window that he didn't fancy a move to Newcastle United after he'd been linked in the media, and honestly, the relief that coursed through my veins when seeing that was borderline erotic.

Is Southgate stubborn or clueless? Or both?

Southgate's stubbornness, or inability to come up with a different strategy is seemingly getting on everyone's collective wick now, even his advocates are starting to waver.

If this report by The Daily Mail is true it suggests that England are going into their final group game playing the same negative tactics that have seen us struggle in two games already this tournament.

The chances that England won't qualify from the group tomorrow are slim, so Southgate has the freedom to try something new, who knows, he may even like it. But no. Same old same old.

Kieran Trippier is a slight doubt for tomorrow's game

Newcastle's Kieran Trippier has been nursing a knock since the last game too, and it has been suggested he could be a doubt, but it's okay because we have Luke Shaw ... wait, no, he's injured too isn't he? He is back in training now, but he's hardly going to be raring to go.

Southgate chose to bring an injured left back to Germany while playing a right-back out of position to cover while he tries to recover. What a Genius.

As much as I'd love to see England win a tournament in my lifetime, I'd possibly celebrate us getting knocked out tomorrow night if it meant the end of Southgate's reign, that's how fed up I am of his negative crap.

We all know Graeme Potter is just sat at home waiting to announce he's taking over the job anyway. It's surely not a coincidence that he hasn't taken another club role since leaving Chelsea.
