Newcastle United have some major work to do this summer to overhaul the squad before next season after suffering an injury-ravaged campaign which exposed the lack of squad depth.
In fact, just today Eddie Howe confirmed that another big player in Fabian Schar will be missing for the remainder of the season.
There are a lot of areas that the Magpies need to improve, but one area where the numbers look good when everyone is fit, is midfield, however, that's not stopped Newcastle from looking for new players in that area too.
One of which is Chelsea's Conor Gallagher who has been on Newcastle's radar for a long time now. He was constantly linked with a move to the North East last summer but he ended up staying at Chelsea and becoming a big part of Mauricio Pochettino's side.
As the season draws to a close the speculation over Gallagher's Chelsea future has ramped up again. Although the player himself would happily stay at Stamford Bridge, there are constant rumours about a move away with Newcastle and Tottenham keen on the £40million-rated England man.
However, journalist Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that he feels Gallagher is not keen on the move to Newcastle.
“Conor Gallagher still hasn’t got his contract offer from Chelsea, so at this moment in time he’s leaving,” he said.
“I’m told that he’s not convinced about a move to Newcastle United. Newcastle do like him, they’ve always liked him. It is not to say he wouldn’t go, but I don’t think he’s massively keen on that move – that is what I am being told.
“I think Tottenham are firmly in the driving seat for him.”
It seems the Londoner would prefer to stay in London and we're fine with that.
We're not convinced by the Gallagher hype. He has potential, there's no doubt about that. We've seen him have some brilliant games for Chelsea and indeed for Crystal Palace when he was there on loan, but he's never struck us as someone who is consistent.
We won't be losing any sleep here at NUFCfeed over his apparent snub. I realise this sounds like when you get shot down by your crush as a teenager and tell your mates "I didn't even like them anyway", but we promise, it's genuine.
