Alan Shearer still remains the Premier League's all-time leading goal scorer despite retiring almost 18 years ago and he holds a similar title at Newcastle United.

The Magpies' all-time leading goals-scorer sat down with Premier League Productions to whittle down his 260 Premier League goals to pick just one as his ultimate.

There were a couple of absolute belters on the list, but the one he ultimately chose wasn't one that will go down in history as one of the greats, but for what it represented, there was hardly a better choice.

First off Shearer had to choose between his first-ever Premier League goal which came for Blackburn Rovers on his debut after becoming Britain's most expensive footballer, and his first-ever goal for Newcastle after becoming the World's most expensive footballer. Shearer opted for the latter as scoring for Newcastle at St James' Park was a literal dream come true moment.

Shearer says his volley against Everton was technically his best ever goal

Next up was the choice between a little dink of Brian Gunn for Blackburn against Norwich or the thunder-cracker against Chelsea after he turned Marcel Desailly inside-out. The goal against Chelsea was a clear winner here.

Shearer then had to choose between the goal that broke the all-time goal-scoring record for Newcastle which came against Portsmouth or his last ever Premier League goal which was a penalty against bitter rivals, Sunderland. As much as a goal against Sunderland will always put a smile on Shearer's face, breaking the record won that bracket.

Finally, it was a contest between two volleys. The side-foot dink over Peter Schmeichel or the rocket against Everton with Alan choosing the latter, which, he claims is his favourite goal from a technical point of view. Something I agree with wholeheartedly.

Shearer wasted no time selecting his overall winner

In the semi-finals, Shearer chose the goal against Portsmouth over his first goal for Newcastle first and then chose the volley against Everton over the Chelsea goal.

With just two left to choose from, Shearer had no hesitation in picking the goal against Portsmouth as his ultimate Premier League goal, given what it meant to him and his family to become Newcastle United's all-time leading goal-scorer at the expense of his own father's hero.

I was fortunate enough to be at St James' Park that day and while I don't often remember much about the games I've attended over the years, I'll never forget the roar when that goal hit the back of the net.
